Danny Cartwright and Spencer Craig were born on different sides of the track.Danny, an East End Cockney, leaves Clement Attlee Comprehensive School at the age of 15 to take up a job at a local garage. He falls in love with Beth, the boss's daughter, and asks her to marry him.
Spencer Craig resides in the West End. A graduate of an English public school and Cambridge University. After leaving university he becomes a criminal barrister and is soon tipped to be the youngest Queen's Counsel of his generation.
Danny and Beth travel up to the West End to celebrate their engagement. They end the evening in a wine bar where Spencer Craig is also celebrating - his 30th birthday, along with a select group of university chums. Their lives will never be the same again. For, an hour later, one of them is arrested for murder, while the other ends up as the Prosecution's chief witness in an Old Bailey trial.

A Prisoner of Birth
Just finished this book and am very sad I have done so. One of the best books I have read in a long time.

What a book!
Brilliant, enjoyable, riveting! As wonderful as Jeffery Archer's other books, so interesting it takes only a day to read, non-stop. "Unputdownable!"

A Prisoner of Birth
A very difficult novel to put down. The various scenarios were parceled neatly thus preventing the reader from expressing a "get on with it" wish. Some situations seemed implausible, but possible. I appreciated Archer's syntax and thus his ability to express himself with clarity and grammatical aptitude. I am very happy to thoroughly recommend this novel.

A Prisoner of Birth
Great read right from the start. Jeffrey Archer knows how to set a scene from his opening chapter to the last sentence in the book. The characters fell right into place and, although the outcome was pretty much a foregone conclusion, they kept me guessing as to exactly how the whole plot would unfold. I couldn't put the book down and have already recommended it to others. Another Jeffrey Archer classic. Don't miss it!

Thrilling read
Really enjoyed this read and as with Archers other novels couldnt put it down. Archer's own experience in Belmarsh gives a very realistic feel to the prison component of the book. Some minor parts of the storyline were predictable but the key twist was delightfully shocking.
